Dubai is a environmental nightmare…I’ve read some stories from people (US) living there and they are spending all their money on a future that is doomed to fail…
The awful truth is that construction standards are terrible in these projects. People are complaining about shoddy workmanship. Considering that the workers have big problems getting paid the pittance they are owed, guess this makes perfect sense. They are doing loans for 96% of the purchase price on most of these projects too. If that is not a plea to sign people up, what is?
The dubai road infrastructure is an unplanned disaster to say the very least. They have put in a toll scheme to ease traffic, and they cannot even get the emails out to the participants to allow them to add money to the account when they receive their account number.
Telecoms here is a disaster too, with VoIP blocked forcing you to use the overpriced local telephone company Etisalat, or its’ partner Du (mostly owned by Etisalat) which leaves one no choice if you live in the UAE. They block all of the normal messenger voice services as well forcing you back to paying thru the nose to call home.
The food stores pretty much cater to the 20% of locals and do not carry the normal expat foods. It takes a license to buy alcohol or pork. Rents in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are totally out of proportion to reality as well. Bachelors are discriminated against getting housing too. Abu Dhabi is going freehold like dubai, which will only exacerbate the rent problem.
Many of the western expats managers and engineers are actively planning to change to other countries, and even the Indian engineers are bailing out as they can now survive handily in India.
They have grandiose upgrade plans, but are shooting themselves in the foot with their policies. The people that have the expertise they need to make these plans come true are going to leave and go elsewhere.

I agree with expat in some cases. But keeping in mind their social
setup and bizzare behaviour lets hope change in future.

Hey. Dubai is the hottest market out there, and there’s no stopping it from it becoming one of the world’s greatest cities. If you’re going to criticize it that all of its plans are going to be doomed, just watch it succeed. You all would encourage it had you yourself lived there.

Stupid people with their money because daddy made a fat discovery, so they spend all their money on worthless shit. How about you lower gas prices and give to your people? Hmm what about the thousands of people I hear get slaughtered? I’d play survival of the fittest but in my country me killing a man would get me jail time and im not down for that. Maybe I should just join the military, that would atleast give me some satisfaction to kill a money grubin heartless dubai pigs.

Dubai is so fake and it will not last! Only thing keeps it running is oil money. When oil crash, it will be a ghost town. There is no culture, no democratic system, just a desert mirage for people to make a quick buck and get out. It is not sustainable like other major cities around world with hundreds or thousand year history. Dubai is a complete fraud, don’t go there!! A city without a soul is so pathetic. I know some people like to quote that Dubai does not rely on oil money, but that is just not true, all the trade in that part of the world is driven by oil, of course Dubai will fail without the regional trade support. Without a sound modern culture and system, Dubai will be nothing but a mirage, it will not last and will certainly not create anything original for mankind.
well if it sinks we all seen is so it will be like Atlantis. and yes maybe they can lower gas prices but maybe we can came whit better way to fuel our cars.

If it does sink people will come from all around the globe to scuba dive it, scuba diving is a huge industry that brings millions to small towns all over the globe, so I think even if it washes away into the ocean it will become a huge tourist attraction generating billions of dollars a year!!!!
