It is correct there are no known photo’s of Crazy Horse, the likeness is an artistic representation. The likeness is Crazy Horse pointing to the afterlife in response to the question “Where is your peoples land?”

This was not a special mountain to the native population and Native American leaders were consulted regarding the location and the likeness the memorial will bear. The memorial is not so much for Crazy Horse as it is for his people. The land is privatly owned and the carving does not damage the environment as some posters have suggested.

Aside from the memorial itself the grounds have educational facilities for teaching the ways of the natives and there is a museum of Indian lore.

This is the only place I have seen negative comments about the memorial, I think these persons are quite misinformed as to the purpose and significance of the memorial.

I read that this mountain is considered sacred to the people it is being blown up for. Good move.

love it! and is does look like crazy horse. i say it’s about time we celebrate the natives, we carved their murders in a mountain…

My mom went to see that memorial last year. It’s still not finished. She said that Mt. Rushmore could fit into the face of the Horse itself, it’s that big.
They’re doing it without any government funding. It’s all donation. I appreciate what they’re doing. Everyone else out there being such a negative nancy about it needs to just calm down.

This is silly becuase anyone who knows history knows that there are NO photos of Crazy Horse. He was afraid of letting his image be taken. So if youre going to destroy a mountain in the name of art why not use a face that you are SURE is the face of that person.

Yes, there are pictures of Crazy Horse and it does look like him. They can blow up the mountain if they want as long as they have the right – besides they did the same thing for those 4 dead guys.

Brush up on your native culture, read a history book and consult a lawyer if your panties are in a twist.
