Is anyone sure that this is all on the up and up. I just looked this up at National Geographic and yes, some of these are in the list, but some are not. The penguin picture looks very shopped. Anyone else think so, or know something about this? http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/pictures2004/wallpaper01.html
It’s an entire collection with “Pictures of the year” which can be ordered online. Here are just some of them that I received through e-mail from readers. If you take a look at the album’s cover you will see there are some other pictures that are not included here.

Penguin picture photoshoped? You can a bit of distortion from resizing but aside from that I don’t see any indication it’s been though any more.

you know, commenters on blogs, of which i am now one, you guys are hyper-critical and hyper-cynical. Can’t the picture just be good?
AMAZING. I’ve always wanted to be a photographer for NG, just so I could see these things with my own eyes.
MagnoliaSouth, lighten up. Can’t anyone look at a spectacular picture anymore without going, “Oh, it must be shopped”? Geez.

I agree. Some of these are not on the National Geographic list, and that penguin one looks cool but something’s not right with it (edges, varying penguin sharpness, etc). I think working with photoshop for too long gives you a critical and cynical eye for photos on the internet.

@ MagnoliaSouth. This picture of Penguin is most likely taken as it is but all are published with very poor detail. Hopefully you will agree. Because of the contrast, this looks much different on these birds although you can notice all the pictures do not look as they should. Are these simply scanned from the magazine to bring them together or just crippeled? Must say, I did not like them. The first photo shows beautiful white rain. That makes it very special.

What beautiful and wonderful photo’s, NG always outdoes themselves and they sure have with these animals. I am an elephant lover and the one of a family of them looking like getting ready to bathe ( I hope so they are dirty lol) and the one of the tiger and her carrying her cub in her moth, that was awesome.

This is one awesome collection. I love the pictures of the penguins and the tigers. Great, thanks a lot.
Breathtaking, amazing pictures. But I’m frustrated for the lack of captions to say who took the pictures, where and when.
Just gorgeous! I especially love the tiger and cub and the lion and cub. Too cute.
Awesome! Thanks for posting these. What a treat!
